Acupuncture

Acupuncture is a treatment used for healing many conditions including pain relief. The gentle treatment consists of using very fine needles at specific points on the body. The aim is to influence the natural functions of the body to aid healing. There are over 300 points on the body, but as little as one needle can be used for a treatment.

Most commonly acupuncture is known for treating musculoskeletal conditions. It is an effective treatment for sciatic pain, low back pain, shoulder and hip pain, for example. It is useful for injury and surgery recoveries. It sometimes includes the technique now known as ‘dry needling’ but is more broad in its scope of treatment.

However, acupuncture has been used as a general medicine for 2000 years and therefore is also used to treat most internal conditions. These include menstruation/menopause, migraine, digestion, lung issues, stress and stress related conditions.

Acupuncture treatments are found to be relaxing by most people. It is a great stress reliever! People receiving acupuncture often report that they feel a greater sense of general wellbeing. They feel less tense emotionally.

The number of treatments required will depend on the condition. In general, expect 2-6 treatments for acute conditions. Acupuncture is great when it’s used as preventative medicine. A monthly session helps to keep you balanced so you can be problem free longer or recover quicker.
